Carne Asada Tacos
Prep Time: 12 hours 30 minutes / Cooking Time: 15 minutes
-
Carne Asada is extremely easy to make, but do not cut the marinating time too much. Overnight is preferable, but you could get away with 2 hours minimum. The acids from the citrus help break down the fibers in the flank steak making a non-choice cut super tender and delicious. And yes, there is a time and place for flour tortillas.
Step 1
Marinate the flank steak overnight in a ziplock bag. 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce, 1/3 cup olive oil, the juice of 1 orange, the juice of 1 lime, sofrito (jalapeno, garlic, cilantro), cumin, salt, and black pepper. The flank steak can be marinated whole, cut into strips, or 1/2" cubes.
Step 2
Pan sear in cast iron (or grill) until desired doneness. If the flank steak was left whole, allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing to serve
Step 3
Warm the flour tortillas and serve with smashed avocado, carne Asada, diced white onion, fresh cilantro, queso fresco, and your favorite hot sauce.
